For most customers printer supplies make up a large chunk of their total yearly expenditures.  We all complain about the price of gas but by the price for the same amount of ink and toner is almost absurd.  For example, a litre of gas is approximately $1.  A litre of wine is $15.  A litre of Dom-Perignon 2000 is $585.  But the price for a litre of Hewlett Packard C6656A ink is $1579!!!

High-Yield Cartridges
Wherever possible use high yield cartridges.  For most printers there are cartridge that contain more ink or toner in them and as a result will print out more pages than a standard cartridge.  These high-yield cartridges typically do cost more.  However, on a cost per page basis they provide significant (20-50%) savings.  For Heweltt Packard this is denoted by the item number ending in a “X” versus an “A” for regular-yield cartridges.

Dual Packs
Some manufacturers offer specially packaged dual-packs of cartridges – basically 2 cartridges in one box thereby saving the packaging and passing along that savings to the consumer.  See the following list of HP cartridges that are available in dual-packs.
