Every business and every individual can do its part to slow the disappearance of our natural resources. Sure it takes a commitment but that’s the hardest part. Often making small operational adjustments can have a big impact. Following are some handy tips that most offices can implement fairly easily, at little or no additional cost and will have an immediate environment benefit.
Use Less Paper:
- Consider setting all your printers to double sided printing. Or at the very least encourage your staff to print on both sides of the page. It uses less paper and therefore costs less and helps reduce paper consumption.
- Whenever possible don’t print. Create folders on your computer and store documents electronically.
- If you print job doesn’t appear don’t automatically re-print it. Often this just causes a wasted copy of your report. Check the printer for faults or other errors first and then if necessary hit reprint.
Use Less Energy:
- Setenergy saving profiles on all your electronic devices. When they’re inactive they should automatically go into an energy saving mode. And get in the practice of turning off equipment entirely when it’s not in use.
- Connect all electronic devices to a power bar and turn the power bar off when inactive. Most devices continue to consume energy even though they are turned off or in an energy saving mode.
- Use energy efficient lighting, heating and other office equipment (printers, copiers, faxes, kettles, refrigerators, ovens etc.
- Install programmable thermostats that use less energy when your office is vacant.
- Implement an idle free policy for company owned vehicles – it costs less, uses less energy and create less emissions
- Less travel
Increase Recycling
- Consider recycling in your kitchen area – recycled cans, bottles, plastics, and even compost waste if it’s supported by your local municipality. It’s reduces your waste disposal costs and reduces unnecessary items going to the landfill
- Create a paper and cardboard recycling program at your office. Please paper recycling bins around your office or at each employee’s desk.
- Encourage your staff to Less travel

Purchase Recycled Products
- Across our vast product assortment there is an ever increasing number of opportunities to
shop green and preserve the environment. Here are just a few of them.
- Recycled paper products (office paper, file folders, storage boxes, writing pads, post-its) – preserves our forests
- Re-manufactured toner and inkjet cartridges – reduces landfill waste and typically saves you 20-50%
- Writing instruments – reduces landfill waste
- Inkjet and Toner dual packs – less packaging and landfill waste
- Rechargeable batteries – less toxic landfill waste
