Are you tired of watching your prices jump up and down and then up again. Or after negotiating good prices, then watching them slowing creep upwards only a few months later. In the early 1990's, most Canadian office product manufacturers stopped publishing Manufacturer Suggested List prices (MSL's). Prior to this virtually all prices in all catalogues printed exactly the same price for every item. So you knew with almost certainty, that a 35% discount from one vendor was better than a 30% discount from another. Unfortunately this is not the case today. Most office product manufacturers don’t’ publish a MSL but rather leave it up to the retailer to create their own. As a result there is a huge variance in List prices and a higher discount percentage doesn’t mean a lower net price to you. Now it's critical to focus on your net price, not your discount percentage. Discounts of up to 55% are common in our industry, which begs the question - 55% off of what?
